Hear ye! Hear ye!

Let it be known that Lord and Lady Kytson are seeking capable men and women (18 or older) to serve in their household of Hengrave Hall in Oxfordshire. Duties include greeting the King and Queen on their summer progress, explaining your daily activities to patrons, and having a great deal of fun!

Living History:

The Company of St. George is for people who love the historical aspect of the Festival. You do not need any previous acting experience - just a love of history, a willingness to learn and share your knowledge with patrons. St. George members are the link to the past for our visitors.

What to expect as a Company of St. George member:
Rehearsals begin in July. Expect a minimum of 2 rehearsals weekly - more as we get closer to opening day. The Festival runs weekends from August 28 to October 24, 2010. Full or half-run contracts are available. St. George members receive a small performance honorarium. The Festival provides all performers with a costume.

The mainstage period play will be Don Quixote, Book II.  Adapted for the stage by Mike Field. Directed by John Sadowsky.

Auditions will be by invitation only and are set for Saturday, June 19th from 10am to 2pm.

Once an invitation has been extended, actors may schedule an appointment time .   

Information on how to schedule auditions will be sent with invitations.

 WE ARE ESPECIALLY INTERESTED IN SEEING ACTORS FOR THE FOLLOWING:

-Male, age 21 - 50 for Camelot Children's Theatre.  Work involves both script & improvisation. Must like kids!

-Female, age 18 - 40. One of our village wenches, who will be part of a group which will involve comedy, improvisation and singing.

-Male, age 25 - 50+ - To be a member of our "Oxford Players", who will perform both improvisation and short Shakespearean pieces.

-2 Males, ages 20 - 50+  To be part of our Swashbucklers, aka "The Sheriff's Men".  Stage combat experience a plus.  Must be physically fit.  Actors with good improvisational skills.

-Female, ages 40+ - Character actor, comfortable with both improvisation and classical theatre.

Professional Companies:

The Company of the Rose:
Actors over the age of 18 to perform in both scripted and improvisational events. These actors portray the villagers of Revel Grove and nobles from the Court of King Henry VIII. In addition to their historical characters, actors can take part in children’s theatre, Shakespeare and other period plays.

The Company of the Rose - 'B' Contract:
Actors over the age of 18 to perform in the Festivals stage shows, which can included Shakespeare, children’s theatre, period plays and original works. There is no improvisational work involved with this contract.  B contracts are only extended for leading roles.


Rehearsal Commitment:

General festival rehearsals  - which include improvisation and original plasy -  will begin the week of July 6th.

Expect a minimum of  3 rehearsals per week. The more stage shows you do, the more rehearsals you can expect.

Rehearsal Times:
Rehearsals can be scheduled the following: Monday through Thursday evenings beginning at 7:30pm. Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 5pm. There are no Friday evening rehearsals.

Performance Dates:
Saturdays, Sundays and Labor Day Monday from August 28 to October 24, 2010. Performances are daytime only. Actors must be available for all 19 performance dates.

Supernumeraries:

The Festival is theatre on a grand scale - imagine a cross between opera and an epic film. And just as those artistic and entertainment forms need many performers - we also need extras to bring history alive.

If you have an interest in performing, or just love the Festival and want to be a part of it - we need you to be a supernumerary, a member of our Company of St. Catherine.

We are looking for good-natured, responsible adults over the age of 18 to be a part of our village and Royal Court. Acting experience is not required. The Festival will provide all supernumeraries with costumes. Supernumeraries will:

  • Be lords and ladies-in-waiting for our Royal Court.
  • Be villagers who greet our patrons and give helpful information.
  • Add color and fun to our events such as Musical merrymaking, The Human Chess Game, Royal Arrival, etc...

Compensation:
Supernumeraries receive a first year honorarium of 250 dollars, and a rehearsal stipend of $125.  You will receive complimentary tickets for your friends and families, along with a very enjoyable theatrical adventure.

Rehearsal Schedule:
Rehearsals begin in July. Frequency of rehearsals depends on which events you do. Expect one to two rehearsals per week - more the week before Opening.

Performances:
Saturdays, Sundays and Labor Day Monday from August 28th  through October 24th. While we’d love to have you available all performance dates, we will extend some partial-run contracts if we can find people willing to split the performance dates.

Musician and Dance Companies

Musicians and Dance Companies

Music is a very important part of the entertainment program at the Festival. Each year the festival hires dozens of musicians ranging from pub bands to wandering minstrels. Dance groups should fit the Renaissance theme. Irish step dancing and Scottish highland dancing is also acceptable.

 To be considered as a musical or dance act for the next Maryland Renaissance Festival, please send the following information:

  • Musicians: a cd of your music. The music should be appropriate to the Renaissance Festival venue. Acoustic instruments only.
  • Dancers: a video tape or dvd of your dance troupe. Please note that dance groups are expected to provide their own live music for the festival. The use of tapes or CDs are not permitted at the show.
  • your resume, references, and any PR (Public Relations) materials you may have
  • your salary request per day (no hat passing, although musicians can sell approved tapes and CDs at the end of each set). Musicians traditionally play 4 twenty-five minute sets per day (although more or less can be arranged). Dancers perform 3 twenty-five minute sets per day.
  • your availability. The MD Festival runs Saturdays, Sundays, and Labor Day Monday from August 28 until October 24/10. Full or partial contracts are possible. A partial run can be as short as one weekend or as long as five weekends. If you are interested in a partial contract, please state the weekends in which you are particularly interested.

To be considered for the festival, you must mail the above information to the Artistic Director as requested.   While we are happy to visit your website for more information, photos and video - you must mail the requested info.  We will not accept emails with attachments,  or general emails that state "have a look at our site and tell me what you think."  Noooooo.......

To be considered as a Stage Act or Street Act for the Maryland Renaissance Festival, please send the following information:

  • a DVD of your act
  • your resume, references, and any PR (Public Relations) materials you may have
  • your salary request per day (no hat passing). Stage acts traditionally perform 4 twenty-five minute stage shows per day. Street performers are scheduled for 4-5 hours of street work with breaks
  • your availability. The MD Festival runs Saturdays, Sundays, and Labor Day Monday from August 28 until October 24/10. Full or partial contracts are available. If you are interested in a partial contract, please specify the best weekends for you.

While the Artistic Director is more than happy to visit your website for additional information, photos & video - please note that you must send the requested items by mail.  We will not open emailed attachments .  We will not  respond to "group" emails telling us to visit your site, or emails that state "have a look at my site and get back to me."  No........

For serious consideration for the 2010 season, all materials should be received by February 12th, 2010 - although packets are accepted year-round.
