Welcome to the Maryland Renaissance Festival Blog, where the sixteenth century meets the twenty-first. Behind-the-scenes information. Fun facts. Historical trivia. Everything regarding all of the happenings here at Revel Grove, you’ll find on this blog.
The 33rd annual Maryland Renaissance Festival will open on Saturday, August 29th. We’re in pre-production here at the site. Rehearsals are in progress, the site is getting groomed, craft vendors arriving to set up their shops, and the privies are on order!
In this blog we’ll be introducing you to those who produce the Festival, as well as performers and artisans offering their unique perspective. Perhaps you’ll even hear from the King himself on his search for wife number six!
As Artistic Director, my focus is on our entertainment and special events. I’ll be bringing you a backstage perspective on the show. And tackling those questions such as “How do you hire the performers?” “How is the storyline chosen each year?” and “What’s up with all that food on a stick?”
I am very excited and enthusastic with the show this season. I think it’s the biggest and best yet. We’ve got a great line-up of new performers and returning favorites. But… we’re not quite ready to open the gates. I’ll be keeping you posted on developments through the rehearsals to Opening Day and beyond.I look forward to your comments on the blogs – and, of course, I look forward to welcoming you at the Festival this season!
