2015 Special Event Weekend & Special Guest Performers

Of course EVERY day is special at the Maryland Renaissance Festival!  However, we have added a few special themes for certain weekends to add to the fun.  Check back early this summer for a detailed list on the events and special guest performers.

PLEASE NOTE: Listed below are selected highlights.  The Festival is open, running, and a jolly good time for all nine weekends between August 29th and October 25th!

August 29th & 30th:   Children's Weekend. 

Any child 15 and under with an accompanying adult ticket purchased is admitted FREE! 

 

Romance Weekend:

Saturday, September 5th: Singles Meet & Mingle!

1pm - 5pm at the Dragon Inn. We encourage singles over the age of 18 to stop by for conversation and mingle with other eligible lords and ladies. Play The Numbers Game - each single is given a numbered badge to wear. See someone you catches your eye? Why then, leave a message to that number on our Singles Message Board. Who knows? A match may be made! Low-key, no pressure meet & mingle games will be played throughout the afternoon, but we encourage everyone to spend some time out and about enjoying all of Revel Grove. 

Sunday, September 6th: Renewal of Vows Ceremony 

All couples wishing to renew their vows of commitment to each other are invited to attend this lovely short ceremony hosted by the King himself.  Renaissance costumes are encouraged for the couples to get into the spirit of the day, but not mandatory. Ceremony: 12:30pm at the Blackfriars Theatre.  (No reservations needed, seating is first come, first served.)

 

Monday, September 7: Seniors Day.  On Labor Day Monday all seniors 62+ will be admitted FREE.

 


September 12th & 13th : Celtic Celebration! 


While our village may be in England, this weekend we celebrate your Celtic Heritage. Show your pride, wear your kilt.  Enjoy wonderful Celtic music throughout the village, including one of our special guest bands, Dublin 3 at the White Hart Tavern.

 

 

Saturday, September 12th is an ASL performance interpretation day.  Selected shows will be interpreted by SHARAVA Interpreting Service.  The listing of interpreted shows will be posted on our website under 'entertainment schedules' the week prior to the 12th.

 

September 19th & 20th: Pirate Weekend. 

Ahoy, Matey! Tis pirate weekend.  Enjoy the music of The Pyrates Royale (pictured below), The Rambling Sailors, Scales & Crosstones and more.  We encourage all to dress in their nautical best!

 

 

Saturday, September 26th only:

DIANA GABALDON,  #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Outlander series

 DIANA GABALDON will make a special appearance at the Festival for one day only!  On September 26th she will make an appearance at the Blackfriars' Theatre for a short reading and a moderated Questions & Answers session.  Following this thirty minute presentation, she will be signing copies of her books.  (Please note: There is no additional charge to see Ms. Gabaldon.  As with all of our entertainment, it is included in your general Festival ticket.  However, due to expected demand, entrance to the festival does not guarantee patrons will be able to secure a seat to see Ms. Gabaldon at the Blackfriars.) Because of expected demand, we will have an email lottery system in place for a limited amount of people to obtain a ticket for the book signing. There is no charge for this, and details will be posted closer to the event.

September 26th & 27th: Special Guests, from London, it is the MEDIAEVAL BAEBES.

 

The Mediaeval Baebes will be performing three sets daily at the Blackfriars Theatre on September 26th and 27th. These fair maidens have places three albums into the top of the UK Classical Charts, and contributed to the BBC production of The Virgin Queen, which resulted in an Ivor Novello award in 2007 for best television soundtrack.

Sourcing lyrics from medieval and romantic texts and setting them to original scores using medieval and folk instruments whilst singing in an impressive array of ancient languages, the Baebes offer beguiling musical beauty and outstanding talent.

Their most recent album, Of Kings And Angels, showcases a celestial collection of Christmas carols arranged in their special Baebes style for your seasonal enjoyment.  The album climbed into the top 10 of the UK classical charts upon its release at home, and now the Baebes will have the CD on hand for US audiences to purchase. The Baebes happily meet with fans and sign CDs after every performance!

Sunday, October 11th: An ASL interpretation day.  Selected shows will be ASL interpreted by SHARAVA interpreting service.  The listing of the shows interpreted will be available in the "entertainment schedule" of this website the week prior to the 11th.

 

October 24th & 25th: Jousting Competition  

 While jousting takes place on every day of the Festival, on this special weekend we have knights across the country join our Free Lancers jousting company in a special competition to determine who is the greatest knight in the land!
